In February 1962, C Pinckney and Co Pty Ltd was acquired.
An old-established company, Charles Pinckney started trading in the 1890s in West Melbourne. By the end of World War I they had two plants making cans for the biscuit trade.
On 30 April 1962, National Can acquired seventy percent interest in Norton Can Company Pty Ltd. The founder and Managing Director Vince Norton, continued as a member of the board, Gumley was appointed manager of both National Can (NSW) and Norton. The acquisition greatly enhanced the prospects for National Can in the NSW market and it was expected that sales would exceed Victorian can sales.
