1994 saw a real start to NCI’s Papua New Guinea operation.
Two operations were acquired being the large drum business of Hornibrook NGI Pty Ltd and the general line can and crown seal manufacturer, Crown Cork and Seal (PNG) Pty Ltd. In August 1994 a 205 Litre drum line commenced operation at the old Hornibrook plant as National Can and Drum Pty Ltd.
The Crown Cork and Seal deal was finalised in October 1994 and both businesses merged onto the one site at Orion Road, Taraka, Lae. By 1995 additional equipment had also arrived to augment the operation. The official opening of the combined PNG operation took place in 1995.
