1984 was to be a landmark year for National Can with the major step of public listing and the emergence of National Can Industries Limited.
National Can Industries Limited shares were listed on the Melbourne Stock Exchange (ASX) on 12 July 1984, the 50 cent shares closing at $1.08 on the first day of trading. The float had opened on 4 July and closed immediately, being fully subscribed by 718 shareholders, some of whom had to take fewer shares than they would have otherwise wished.
