NCI acquired the Canpac business in New Zealand.
The metal container division of the business, had plants in Auckland and Wellington on the North Island, and a plant at Christchurch in the South Island. There were 400 people employed. NCI in buying this business bought the properties in Wellington and Christchurch while leasing land and buildings at Panmure in Auckland.
The purchase was unexpected, as National Can (NZ) was a smaller company, which bought an operation three or four times bigger than itself! It was the mouse that roared!
