NCI is deeply saddened by the passing of Michael Tyrrell, the company’s Executive Director and proprietor.
Michael devoted his entire working life to NCI, starting directly from school as a management trainee in 1979. During his 36 year career, Michael gained wide experience and deep knowledge of the business, working at many of the company’s manufacturing sites. He quickly worked his way up through the ranks, occupying a range of senior management roles before following in his father’s footsteps and becoming Managing Director in 2000.
Michael was a champion of innovation and pioneered the company’s successful expansion in leading edge plastic packaging and metal decoration facilities. He enthusiastically embraced all forms of new technology, driving important advancements in the company’s information systems, product development and factory designs.
A passionate advocate for and believer in the packaging industry, Michael worked tirelessly on the boards of the Packaging Council of Australia, including terms as President and Treasurer, and the Aerosol Association of Australia.
Michael approached all tasks with great gusto and flair, always applying a ‘never give up’ attitude to even the most challenging situations. This stubborn persistence was rewarded in 2012 when he successfully privatised NCI, having been thwarted 9 years earlier.
An avid aviator, once world ranked windsurfer and a competitive mountain biker, Michael pursued his recreational activities with the same passion and commitment so evident in his work.
